In the middle of the pregnancy excitement, during a routine check-up with her obstetrician, Kassia mentioned that she felt something strange on her breast. Just in case, the doctor recommended that she had some detailed scans done, and shortly thereafter the diagnosis came back: breast cancer. This is the kind of news that certainly no one is ready to hear. With Kassia it was no different. What was different is how she faced this reality: head-on and full of courage. “Everything is okay. Let’s go! I feel great!”
Her main concern was always her children. Both Gi and Livia, as well as, Elena and Alice, who were still growing inside her. By the way, I have no doubts that these four girls gave Kassia the strength that she had during the whole process.
The surgery was done while she was still pregnant. Only a mother can measure how brave Kassia was. Everything went well, and a few weeks after the tumour was resected, Elena and Alice were born. Strong, beautiful, and full of life, they did not even need to stay longer than normal at the hospital - like typically happens with twins - after all they were as strong as their mother! They were determined to go home!
