To Kassia from Adriano

When over 20 years pass by, memories become a mix of facts that really happened, some slight distortions, and what the collective conciousness recall about stories that we tell and hear from those close to us. Such a long time friendship creates this aura around Kassia, of what she was, what she is, and what she always will be for us.

I speak of friendship, but in the broadness of this word, it’s nice to say that she has always been a very close friend, a sister that the world gave me. Someone from whom I heard I love you during one of the most difficult moments in my life.

In the illusion of our lives, we met during a trip to Itamambuca… 9 hours of heavy traffic… rain… rain… we arrived at the camping site exhausted, and we had to set up the tents…. rain… rain… we woke up next day… rain… rain… but it did not prevent us from enjoying the beach (true people from Sao Paulo go to the beach even under rain) and it did not prevent us from coming back with the feeling that many other trips would come.

And they came, many… and Kassia always with her balanced happiness… I can’t remember of a moment of sheer excitement… I remember her peacefulness enjoying each moment which made every place and every thing valuable.

We participated a lot in each other lives, like a family that we will always be, but her generosity opening her home to welcome us on our Canadian adventure will forever hold our gratitude. Despite the craziness we imposed, the routine change, she always did everything to ensure we were well. I know she cheered hard for us to stay close.

Unfortunately we couldn’t, but the geographic distance never diminished the affection. And now, I know that she stays close, what we are represents a little of her, and her energy will be with us forever.
